Minor Programme in Journalism and Digital Media

Students seeking to pursue the study of a minor programme would need to fulfil 15 units of courses specified by the offering department/programme, with at least one course (3 units) at Level 3 or 4. Note that no registration priority will be given to enrolment in minor courses. Upon completion of the 15 units required for the minor programmes, students should apply to the Academic Registry for approval.

The structure of the curriculum is as follows:

I) Required Courses 9 units
II) Elective Courses 6 units
    15 units

Requirements

I. Required Courses 9 units
  Take any two Writing Courses from the following: 
  JOUR2077 Chinese News Reporting and Writing 3 units
  JOUR2085 English News Reporting and Writing 3 units
  JOUR3176 Advanced News and Feature Writing (Chinese) 3 units
  JOUR3177 Advanced News and Feature Writing (English) 3 units
     
  Take any one Theory Course from the following: 
  JOUR3137 Journalism and Communication Theory 3 units
  JOUR3157 Law and Ethics for Journalists 3 units
  JOUR4007 Research Methods in Communication 3 units
  JOUR4056 Media Management 3 units
  JOUR4057 International News in a Globalized World 3 units
     
II. Elective Courses 6 units
  Take any 6 units of Journalism Elective Courses from the following: 
  JOUR2106 Data Visualization 3 units
  JOUR2116 Finance and Economics for Journalists 3 units
  JOUR2126 Data Journalism 2 units
  JOUR3016 Political Economy for Journalists 3 units
  JOUR3117 News Translation 3 units
  JOUR4017 China Reporting and Writing 3 units
  JOUR4025 Critical Studies of Media 3 units
  JOUR4047 Comparative Perspectives on Media 3 units
