Master of Fine Arts in Cinematic Arts and Creative Practice

Programme Director: Dr JIANG, Wei

Master of Fine Arts in Cinematic Arts and Creative Practice is a two-year full-time programme leading to a terminal degree in creative media production.

In light of the advancements in AI, virtual production, multi-screen interfaces, and streaming distribution, our programme integrates both production and theoretical courses to provide students with a comprehensive education in the professional, conceptual, and aesthetic dimensions of contemporary media production. Students will engage with cutting-edge creative experiences through systematic in-class activities that are informed by the latest developments in audio-visual production, including AI-driven storytelling, virtual reality environments, and interactive media.

Leveraging virtual production techniques, students will create works that transcend traditional formats, exploring the potential of AI to generate dynamic narratives and using multi-screen interfaces to craft immersive experiences. They will also learn to navigate the evolving landscape of streaming distribution, gaining insights into how digital platforms are reshaping the consumption and monetization of media content.

Besides productions of moving images, creative and critical writing are also integral parts of the learning process. For creative courses, individual creative potential will be nourished through different kinds of audio-visual and writing assignments. For theoretical and analytical courses, the writing of term papers forms a major part of learning. Course instructors ensure that the term papers are aimed at application of theories and knowledge.
