Master of Arts in Creative Writing for Cultural Professionals

We aim to train cultural professionals in the foundations of creative writing and critical thinking in both English and Chinese, enabling them to develop their careers in their chosen language while maintaining an international and cross cultural outlook. The Programme recognizes and strengthens the role of creative writing across different cultural and creative fields, especially in challenging local global contexts. Through appropriate training, graduates will be able to use creative writing as a meaningful strategy for addressing social issues, supporting community development, articulating personal experience, and fostering civic engagement, transparency, and mutual understanding within the community.
The MA in Creative Writing for Cultural Professionals can be completed in 1 year (full-time) or 2 years (part-time).

Requirements
This Master of Arts programme is a 27-unit taught postgraduate degree. To fulfil the graduation requirements, students must complete 15 units of required courses (including a 3-unit Master Project) and 12 units of free electives. The medium of instruction for core and elective courses may vary and is subject to change as appropriate.
Students who complete all unit requirements and achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above will be awarded the MA in Creative Writing and Cultural Professional. Students who attain a cumulative GPA of 3.67 or above, with no course grade below B- and no repeated courses, will graduate with Distinction. Students who attain a cumulative GPA between 3.40 and 3.66 will graduate with Merit. An exit award in the form of a Postgraduate Diploma may be granted to students who have completed at least 18 units and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above. Students with a GPA of 2.50 or below in the first or second semester will receive a warning that their performance may result in failure to qualify for the degree.

1. Not all courses are offered every academic year, and their availability is subject to the Department and MACWCP Programme.
2. For full-time students, the recommended study plan is 15 credits in Semester 1 (5 courses) and 12 credits in Semester 2 (4 courses); For part-time students, the recommended study plan is 6 credits in Year 1 Semester 1 (2 courses), 9 credits in Year 1 Semester 2 (3 courses), 6 credits in Year 2 Semester 1 (2 courses), and 6 credits in Year 2 Semester 2 (2 courses).
3. With the approval of the MACWCP Programme team and the relevant department(s), students may take one shared course offered by specific taught postgraduate programmes at the University as an elective.
