Master of Social Sciences in Psychology

The Master of Social Sciences in Psychology Programme is a conversion programme for non- psychology degree holders. It aims to provide intensive training in a broad knowledge base across key areas of psychology with unique emphasis on health-related topics. The programme structure is benchmarked with international standards, aligning with similar conversion programmes offered in other universities. Graduates will fulfill membership requirements of major psychological societies in the world, and be prepared for advanced professional and research postgraduate training in psychology in Hong Kong and overseas. The objectives of the programme are:

• to establish critical knowledge in major concepts and theories in different fields of psychology, particularly those areas related to health;
• to enhance analytical and critical understanding of human, social, and health phenomena from a psychological perspective;
• to become critically aware of psychology-related issues in everyday life, health- related settings, and across global contexts; and
• to develop the competence to conduct independent psychological research project and communicate the findings with others effectively.

The structure of the curriculum is as follows:

II) Electives 6 units
    27 units

Requirements

For graduation, students must complete a total of 27 units, submit all required coursework and pass all requisite examinations within the specified duration of the programme and obtain:
1. Grade C- or above in all courses; and
2. A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.

Normally full-time students should complete the programme in one year and part-time students in two years.
