Doctor of Education

This is a taught postgraduate programme leading to the award of the degree of Doctor of Education (EdD). The programme aims to enable professionals in the field of education or related disciplines to contribute to their professional practices from an informed and robust research perspective.

The aims of the programme are:

  1. To demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of their chosen focus area in education or related disciplines;
  2. To comprehend current research paradigms and the nature of research enquiry in education or related disciplines;
  3. To critically evaluate research and practice in their own professional area;
  4. To conduct independent research of an original and robust nature; and
  5. To contribute to the development of knowledge and practice in their area of professional endeavour. 

The structure of the curriculum is as follows:

I) Required Courses 15 units
II) Advanced Content Courses 6 units
III) Elective Course 3 units
IV) Thesis 42 units
    66 units

Requirements

For graduation, students must complete a total of 66 units and satisfy the requirements of the thesis within the specified duration of the programme and obtain:

  1. Grade C- or above in all courses; and
  2. A cumulative GPA of 2.67 or higher.

Students who, for whatever reasons, are leaving the programme and have satisfied all the coursework requirements and completed at least 24 units with an overall GPA of 2.50 or above and Grade C- or above in all courses, are eligible to be awarded a Master of Education degree as an interim award.
