Minor Programme in Applied Mathematics

Students seeking to pursue the study of a minor programme would need to fulfil 15 units of courses specified by the offering department/programme, with at least one course (3 units) at Level 3 or 4. Note that no registration priority will be given to enrolment in minor courses. Upon completion of the 15 units required for the minor programmes, students should apply to the Academic Registry for approval.

The structure of the curriculum is as follows:

I) Required Courses 6 units
II) Elective Courses 6 units
III) One 3-unit course starts with Letter Code MATH, excluding all non-letter grade courses MATH3095, MATH3096, MATH3097MATH3495, MATH3496, MATH3497, MATH4998 and MATH4999 3 units
    15 units

Requirements

I. Required Courses 6 units
  Either  
  MATH1005 Calculus I 3 units
  Or  
  MATH1006 Advanced Calculus I 3 units
  MATH2207 Linear Algebra 3 units
     
II. Elective Courses 6 units
  Two of the following courses:  
  MATH2225 Calculus II 3 units
  MATH3205 Linear Programming and Integer Programming 3 units
  MATH3206 Numerical Methods I 3 units
  MATH3405 Ordinary Differential Equations 3 units
     
III. One 3-unit course starts with Letter Code MATH, excluding all non-letter grade courses MATH3095, MATH3096, MATH3097MATH3495, MATH3496, MATH3497, MATH4998 and MATH4999 3 units
    15 units

Remarks:

1. No courses may be double counted between a major and a minor programme. In such cases, required course(s) can be replaced with elective course(s) to fulfil the unit requirement for this programme.

2. Students of Faculty of Science are not allowed to use MATH1025 to fulfil the Minor requirement. They are required to take another elective course.

3. BSc COMPUTER SCI students are not allowed to use MATH1205 and MATH2005 to fulfil the Minor requirement. They are required to take another elective course.
