Master of Science in Personal Health Management (Chinese Medicine)

The Programme aims at bringing in an integration of the knowledge and skills of Chinese medicine with the conventional medicine to enhance the prevailing methods in health preservation/rehabilitation. Also, the programme intends to promote the benefits of Chinese medicine to the community; and to nurture a generation of high caliber personnel in health management with a new emphasis on Chinese medicine, who will contribute to public health management and health education promotion in Hong Kong and overseas.

Programme of Study

For full-time basis, the normal programme of study for the programme is one year, and the maximum study period is two years. For part-time basis, the normal programme of study for the programme is two years, and the maximum study period is three years. Lectures, practicum and dissertation are arranged.

Structure

It is a 30-unit programme comprising of Compulsory Courses (27 units), Dissertation (3 units)/ Elective course: Formulation Theories and Practices of Chinese Medicinal Formulae (3 units). 

Students who have not previously studied Chinese Medicine or Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine must take, in addition to the above, a supplementary course titled “Overview on Chinese Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica” (3 units) as supplement.

  MHM 7050 Food Therapy in Chinese Medicine 2 units
  MHM 7060 Exercises for Health Preservation in Chinese Medicine (Theory and Practice) 2 units
  MHM 7070 Serial Lectures in Health Management 2 units
  MHM 7080 Rehabilitative Nursing in Chinese Medicine 2 units
  MHM 7090 Health Management of Common Urban Diseases 3 units
  MHM 7100 Cosmetology in Chinese Medicine 2 units
  MHM 7110 Overview on Public Health and Preventive Medicine 2 units
  MHM 7120 Introduction of Nutriology 2 units
  MHM 7150 Constitutional Theory of Chinese Medicine 3 units
  MHM 7160 Practicum 4 units
     
II. Dissertation* 3 units
     30 units
* Students can take either (1) MHM 7170 Formulation Theories and Practices of Chinese Medicinal Formulae or (2) MHM 7180 Dissertation.
 
Supplementary Course (for those who have not previously studied CM or CM Pharmacy):
  MHM 7190 Overview on Chinese Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica 3 units
The academic results of the supplementary course obtained by the students will be recorded in the transcript (Satisfactory/Fail) without GPA grading and the units of the supplementary course will not be added to the total units.
