Minor Programme in Theatre Studies

Students seeking to pursue the study of a minor programme would need to fulfil 15 units of courses specified by the offering department/programme, and note that no registration priority will be given to enrolment in minor courses. Upon completion of the 15 units required for the minor programmes, students should apply to the Academic Registry for approval.

The structure of the curriculum is as follows:

I) Required Courses 6 units
II) Elective Courses 9 units
    15 units

Requirements

I. Required Courses 6 units
  HUMN2027 Introduction to the Art of Theatre 3 units
  HUMN3005 Artistic Creativity and Aesthetics Awareness 3 units
     
II. Elective Courses 9 units
  Three of the following courses, of which at least one must be at Level 3 or above: 
  CHIL2035 Art of Kunqu 3 units
  CHIL3056 Special Topics in Chinese Arts and Chinese Literature* 3 units
  CHIL4066 Classical Chinese Drama 3 units
  ENGL3066 Modern and Contemporary Drama 3 units
  ENGL4086 Shakespeare and His Contemporaries 3 units
  ENGL4105 Comparative Drama 3 units
  HUMN2016 Performing as Human Experience 3 units
  LANG3007 Modern and Contemporary Theatre: Appreciation and Playwriting 3 units
  TRAN3017 Drama Translation 3 units
  WRIT3015 Scriptwriting for Theatre 3 units
    15 units

* CHIL3056 Special Topics in Chinese Arts and Chinese Literature can only count for the Minor in Theatre Studies if a playwright or dramatic topic is covered.

Progression:

Students taking Theatre Studies as a Minor are strongly advised to take HUMN2027 Introduction to the Art of Theatre as the foundation course first before they progress to the elective component (three other courses from the list). The other required course, HUMN3005 Artistic Creativity and Aesthetics Awareness, should be taken in their later stage of study.
