Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sport and Recreation Leadership
The Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Sport and Recreation Leadership is a four-year full-time Programme for Associate Degree graduates who wish to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to develop a career in the sport and recreation industry. Apart from serving the mainstream population, a focus is placed on the planning and delivery of sport and recreation programs to persons with special needs, such as elderly people, people with physical/intellectual disabilities and people who require special attention.
On completion of the programme, students should be able to:
- Apply appropriate theories and concepts in sports and recreation to plan and organize specific events according to the needs of the participants;
- Evaluate sports and recreation events from the perspectives of equal opportunities and inclusion, and globalized and localized contexts;
- Lead and manage sports and recreation events with creative problem-solving skills; and
- Reflect on the challenges faced by participants of sports and recreation events from their physical and special needs perspectives.
Most courses are taught by a combination of lecture-discussions and field experiences such as site-visits, observations, and case studies. A special feature of the programme is its service learning, which include extensive professional placements that will provide students with work integrated learning experiences in both mainstream sport and recreation organizations and in organizations that serve people with special needs.
The structure of the curriculum is as follows:
I) | Major Courses | 60 units |
II) | Honours Project | 6 units |
III) | General Education | 38 units |
IV) | Free Electives | 24 units |
128 units |
