The content to be compared varies with the aims and positioning of the comparing party. The basic philosophies of a discipline forms its basis of existence; the revealing of the basic philosophies helps the perpetuation of the fundamental nature of a discipline. This course aims to consolidate the philosophies of CM by comparing it to western medicine (bio-medicine), the latter of which bears clearer concepts. Through comparing similarities and differences between Chinese and western medicine, the course aims to reveal the medical philosophies of Chinese medicine. Through tracing and analysing the historical processes and possible origins of different medical philosophies, the course aims to discuss possible future developments for CM, and further achieve the goal of inspiring thinking and stimulating new pedagogies.

Remark: In addition to the stated medium of instruction, Cantonese would be used for supplementing and facilitating teaching and learning as appropriate.  

通過對比西醫學的方法，探討中醫學在診斷與治療思路方面的認識問題。鑒於中醫學的診治思路問題在業內外多有爭鳴，未有公認、定論，故課程設定目標爲“探討”，目的旨在發現問題、分析問題能力的培養與訓練。
