The semester-long course aims to offer basic theories to students learning Chinese medicine, including nature and flavour, orientation of medicinal actions, functions and application. This course provides basic knowledge on how Chinese medicine properties can be applied, and allows students to grasp commonly used Chinese medicines in clinical practice and scientific research.

Remark: In addition to the stated medium of instruction, Cantonese would be used for supplementing and facilitating teaching and learning as appropriate.  

介紹中藥的基本理論，要求學生掌握大約三百種中藥的性味、歸經、功能、主治、毒性及用藥禁忌，熟悉特殊中藥的主要炮製方法、用量、用法，了解常用中藥的產地和鑑別。
