This course builds on JOUR7150 Business News Reporting and Writing to develop advanced reporting and writing skills for business, financial and economic journalism. Students will produce more complex and in-depth news and feature stories, with a focus on reporting developing stories under time pressure, covering major economic and policy events, understanding beat reporting and producing explainers and analytical pieces. The course strengthens advanced newsgathering techniques, including sourcing, verification and the use of financial and economic data, while developing the ability to provide clear context on complex issues. Through reporting practice and analysis of professional journalism, students will produce accurate, well-structured and responsible journalism for international audiences. Students will also engage in critical analysis and discussions of ongoing current events over the semester.
