JOUR7170 Business & Financial Analysis for Journalists (3 units)

This course provides the foundation for subsequent study of economic data, policy and markets in JOUR7160. It introduces journalism students to the core concepts and analytical tools used to understand business, finance and financial markets. It focuses on developing the ability to interpret financial statements, evaluate companies and industries and identify risks, irregularities and market signals. Particular emphasis is placed on applying financial analysis to contemporary issues in global business and finance, including digital assets and emerging financial systems. The course equips students with the knowledge and skills to critically analyse financial information and to “follow the money” in order to produce clear, accurate and insightful business journalism.
