This course follows JOUR7170 Business and Financial Analysis for Journalists to introduce journalism students to the key concepts, data and policy frameworks used to understand economic conditions and developments. It focuses on developing the ability to interpret economic indicators, analyse monetary and fiscal policy and evaluate economic trends in both global and regional contexts. Particular emphasis is placed on using economic data and policy analysis to understand real-world issues, including economic cycles, financial instability and international economic dynamics. The course equips students with the knowledge and skills to interpret economic information critically and to produce clear, accurate and well-contextualised journalism on economic issues. Students will also critically discuss current events in their economic and geopolitical context.
