This course provides students with the fundamental knowledge of biochemistry, from the building blocks of life to the major metabolic pathways that govern cellular function. We will explore the intricate networks of carbohydrate, lipid, protein and nucleotide metabolism. A central theme of the course will be to connect these biochemical pathways to normal human physiology and to understand how their dysregulation leads to common metabolic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
