MATH4606 Functional Analysis (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This course aims at familiarising the student with the basic concepts, principles and methods of functional analysis and its applications. The notions of metric spaces, fixed point theorems, Banach spaces, Hilbert spaces, continuous linear operator, the Hahn-Banach extension theorem, the uniform boundedness principle and the open mapping theorem, and applications of the above topics will be introduced. Real-world applications will be discussed such as the shortest time or curve of fastest descent for industry, innovation and infrastructure.
