Drawing is the fundamental training for various visual arts subjects. Observational drawing is an essential starting point in the development of many creative processes. This course focuses on strengthening students’ observational and drawing skills; hand-eye coordination; and to equip students with methods and techniques to accurately depict what they observe. Students will also be introduced to drawing with wet and dry drawing mediums, explore drawing in different scales, interpret drawings by considering the semiotics of their choice and depiction, and through such, understand observational drawing is a way to articulate or imply certain meanings.
By introducing drawing studies of past and current artists, the course aims to develop students' knowledge and elevate their skills so they can fully explore the technique. Also begin to build up their visual languages and develop their ideas. The acquired skills will allow students to draw confidently and consistently, enable them to represent, translate and articulate their ideas through drawing.
