This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and techniques of life drawing with emphasis on exploring artistic expressions from utilizing a variety of drawing media. The course starts with understanding specific skills to work with life model. It continues by developing manipulation of pictorial composition, colour and gestural expression, interpretation of the body and space relation, and the effects of form and distortions.
Students will have the opportunities to practice drawing from life model with various drawing media through different class exercises and assignments. Traditional and contemporary concepts will be introduced, including contour, value, proportion, and composition. The form and structure of the model will be studied. The use of new and mixed media will be encouraged to explore as point of departure toward the development of personal expression. Class discussions and individual tutorials assist students to develop drawing from life as a methodology for conceptual artistic creation beyond mere representation of a perceived reality.
