The ability to build structures by hand is an essential skill to any creator, artist or designer. Wood as versatile, durable and comparatively cheap construction material is an ideal starting point to learn the use of hand tools as well as portable and stationary power tools, but also to consider issues like assembly/joints of elements, construction sequences, etc. Accordingly, the course will also allocate time to general planning tools, like 2D plans, CAD drawings and simple construction theory.
The course is practice-based and will focus on technical demonstration and a continuous studio practice to inspire in the students to think fluidly about how ideas may develop into completed “products”.
