SOWK3005 Field Practice I (10 units)
- Prerequisite:
- Students must complete and pass SOWK 2018-9 Skills for Social Work Practice, SOWK 2006 Social Work Values and Intervention, as well as all three Theory and Practice in Social Work courses (SOWK3025, SOWK3035, SOWK3045). In addition, students must have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above by the end of the first semester of their Year Three studies.

The field practice component includes hands-on experiences in various social work settings, where students engage in direct service with individuals, families, groups, and communities, particularly targeting vulnerable groups to enhance social support and alleviate other forms of deprivation. Activities involve conducting assessments, developing intervention plans, participating in case management, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams within social protection systems. Students also take part in supervision sessions, reflective practice discussions, and workshops focused on specific skills such as communication, conflict resolution, and cultural competency to promote social inclusion and advocate for reduced inequalities and peaceful society. Additionally, they document their experiences through reflective journaling and may engage in community outreach initiatives.
