SOWK2025 Social Policy and Law (3 units)

Students will first examine the theoretical underpinnings of social policy and legal theories related to social work and social services, followed by a critical examination of the dimensions of policy and legal issues which affect the distribution of resources in society. The major topics to be covered in this subject are anti-poverty measures, support for low-income groups, social security systems, healthcare services, equal opportunities, and anti-discrimination. Case examples of social policy and legal issues in Hong Kong and abroad will be used as illustrations throughout the course.
