SOCI2005 Qualitative Methods of Social Research (3 units)

This course provides an understanding of qualitative research methods and the intellectual grounds on which they stand. It will address the theoretical, ethical, and practical issues that arise in qualitative research, with attention to inclusive and equitable research practices and collaborative knowledge production. The course takes a "hands-on" approach, through which students are offered learning opportunities to practice a range of qualitative approaches and techniques, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, and focus groups. The course encourages critical reflection on research partnerships and communication across diverse communities and stakeholders.
