RELI3137 Confucianism (3 units)

This course aims to introduce students to Confucian teachings and practices in China. This introductory course has three main goals: (1) to provide basic knowledge of Confucianism, and systematically discuss fundamental philosophical and religious issues in this tradition; (2) to focus on how Confucianism has shaped Chinese ways of life; and (3) to study how Confucianism responds to different social, religious, cultural and ethical issues in the modern world (such as human rights). The approaches taken are both historical and comparative.
