This course introduces students to selected musical traditions, soundscapes, and practices beyond the realm of Western classical music. It explores various approaches to music making and listening, and how these approaches are connected to particular cultural forms such as rituals and ceremonies as well as dance and theatre. Intended to expose students to the richness of cultural heritage and diversity of musical cultures worldwide, the course promotes social inclusion through the study of diverse traditions.. It also aims to develop students’ sensibility to music being a means of expression and communication in different contexts, be they local, regional, national, or global.
