This course provides a comprehensive postgraduate-level education on the intersection of arts investment, cultural asset management, and creative enterprise, specifically tailored for the family office context. The curriculum is grounded in the disciplinary expertise of cultural economics, providing students with rigorous frameworks to understand how cultural value is created, translated into financial price, and managed within a portfolio.
Students will delve into the complex structure of the global art market, with a special focus on Hong Kong's role as a leading international hub. The course covers advanced valuation methodologies for art and cultural objects, the financial dynamics of auction houses and galleries, and the strategic deployment of capital through arts philanthropy and patronage. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of curatorial theory to inform investment decisions, and the principles of ethical governance and sustainable business models for cultural organizations.
Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the art world from the perspective of professional visual arts specialists, including curators, auction specialists, valuers, and creative industry practitioners, gaining an authentic, insider view of how the art world thinks, operates, and creates value. The course provides opportunities to explore Hong Kong’s world‑class cultural ecosystem, including the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), M+, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and the city’s leading auction houses and galleries.
