JOUR7250 Reporting Greater China (3 units)

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge, analytical frameworks and practical reporting skills needed to cover Greater China, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, from an international journalism perspective. The course examines the historical, political, economic, social and cultural developments shaping contemporary China and its growing global influence, as well as Hong Kong’s evolving role under “One Country, Two Systems.” Students will explore how Greater China is reported in domestic, regional and international media environments while developing professional journalism skills in reporting, verification, source evaluation and ethical news production. Particular attention will be given to international journalism standards, digital reporting practices, social media, artificial intelligence, disinformation and the challenges of reporting Greater China in a rapidly changing global information environment.
