This course covers the role of artificial intelligence (Al) in assistive technology within the broader context of human-computer interaction (HCI} and human-Al interaction (HAI). Topics include foundational HCI and HAI principles, Al-powered assistive systems, human-Al teaming in assistive contexts including healthcare applications like medical imaging, trust and explainability with emphasis on uncertainty communication, ethical challenges, human-in-the-loop training and active learning, and emerging developments.
