IMPP3017 Selected Topics in Psychological Approaches to Interactive Media Publishing (3 units)
In interactive media publishing, psychology matters as the impact of published content depends on how users perceive, understand, feel about, and choose to engage with the experiences. Given the importance, this elective course covers topics that shape user experience and engagement, including cognition, emotion and social influence, motivation and needs, presence, and user adoption. Students will learn to apply interdisciplinary psychological theories and research to interactive media publishing. This course adopts a project-based, case-study approach that provides students with opportunities to empirically examine psychological and behavioral outcomes associated with their (existing) publishing prototypes or chosen topics in interactive media, integrating psychological theories into practice. By the end of this course, students will gain a deeper understanding of scientific research on the psychological approaches to interactive media publishing and will be able to use empirical evidence to inform publishing decisions.
