HUMN2025 Gender: Theory and Culture (3 units)

This course aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of gender and sexuality from an inter-disciplinary perspective. It defines and explores how gender is constructed socially, culturally, and historically, using examples from various cultures. It equips students with trends of thought and basic theories in gender studies, such as feminist critiques, and debates of related issues in the contemporary world, such as gender discrimination, sexual violence, homophobia and transphobia. The course aims to equip students with the ability to identify gender and sexual injustice and the importance of inclusiveness in a civil society.
