This course provides an in-depth introduction to the world of museums, examining their history, their evolving role in contemporary society, and their ethics. Students will trace the development of these unique cultural institutions from their origins as "cabinets of curiosities" to the present, analyzing how practices of collecting, interpretation, and community engagement have changed over time. Building on this historical foundation, students will critically analyze different types of museums, their curatorial strategies, and the ways they navigate complex social issues and controversies.
