FILM2047 Storytelling (3 units)

The course is designed to cultivate creativity in storytelling through intensive script reading and analysis, dynamic thinking and a variety of creative exercises. The course will introduce fundamentals of storytelling and explore the process of idea formation and story development, grounded within the features of film and television genres. Students will study a well-made script closely every one or two weeks, discover the elements of cinematic storytelling, engage in critical and creative thinking, as well as problem solving in all aspects of learning. Additionally, they may gain insight into diverse experiences and social inclusion underlying the scripts. The course also incorporates the study and application of AI-assisted screenwriting methods, enabling students to explore how generative technologies can be critically and creatively integrated into contemporary writing practice. Via a wide variety of analytical and creative exercises, students will learn and apply the tools of scriptwriting, as well as the creative process of filmmaking.
