FAGS2027 Special Topic in Acting: Asia in Focus (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This course aims at providing students with a theoretical map of contemporary screen performance practices in Asia. By introducing renowned directors and important practitioners of screen acting, this course trains students with a richer understanding of cultural heritage and practices of screen productions in five Asia regions as case studies.
Students are expected to learn how to analyze screenplays and screen performances of both local and transnational film productions and their relationship to global trade. Comparative study of different methods in acting will be explored, including how performance can be used to challenge discriminatory practices. Last but not least, students will also learn by practice. They will create their own performances targeting Asian and global audience, drawing from the rich experiences of our culturally diverse students, and receive critique to conclude the course.
