This course equips doctoral students with the advanced quantitative and qualitative skills needed to investigate organizational phenomena and make evidence-informed decisions. Students learn to design studies that integrate hypothesis testing with the development, measurement, and analysis of real-world data that exhibit natural co-variation, alongside interpretive inquiry that seeks deep understanding rather than prediction or control. Quantitative topics include ANOVA, MANOVA, hierarchical regression, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Qualitative components cover case study, ethnography, phenomenology, narrative inquiry, and grounded theory, with practical training in interviewing and observation. Emphasis is placed on methodological rigor, data quality, and the appropriate selection—and integration—of methods (including mixed-methods designs) to address complex organizational questions. By the end of the course, students will be able to design, execute, analyze, and report both quantitative and qualitative studies, and synthesize insights across methods at a standard suitable for a DBA thesis.
