This course aims to inspire students to adopt a broader perspective on sustainability and to develop the mindset needed to address environmental and social challenges through sustainable management. Focusing on smart and sustainable cities, this course explores how various environmental forces, such as climate change, create both challenges and opportunities for governments, businesses, and the public, and how effective policies and strategies are developed. Key principles of sustainable urban development are covered, including interconnections between environmental protection and social-economic progress. Students will study practical approaches such as energy auditing, carbon footprint management, and the application of smart technologies in urban contexts. The course also provides essential knowledge in climate change mitigation, resilience, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting, governance frameworks, and strategies for cities to achieve sustainability and carbon neutrality.
