This course uses local ecological habitats to facilitate students' learning of modern methods for ecological research and environmental assessment. It emphasizes selecting appropriate sampling techniques, collecting plant and animal samples from water and land, interpreting community data, and understanding how human activities, such as overfishing and land use change, can alter community structure. Students also practice writing ecological reports.
