Illustration is a fundament technique in the visual arts, providing tools for observation, interpretation, narrative construction, and representation. Beyond its formal functions—such as conveying information, telling stories, and persuading audiences—illustration empowers creatives to establish their unique identities through creating alternative narrative across various techniques.
The course focuses on essential drawing techniques for illustrators, introducing a wide range of tools and methods to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to create works in diverse contexts. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to explore the specific characteristics of these tools and develop their own original artistic language in drawing.
While the majority of the course consists of skill-based training, design assignments also challenge students to enhance their visual communication skills by grounding their work in foundational theories, including visual metaphor, scale, and composition, through a series of contextual and authentic experiments.
The course allows students to concentrate solely on the image-making process. They are encouraged to experiment with different tools and materials, fostering innovation in their approach to self-representation. Building on the image-making experience, the course will introduce visual narrative techniques and a series of experimental storytelling skills, enabling students to explore various ways to articulate their ideas through images and mediums.
