This course aims to introduce students to the area of video as a creative and expressive medium. The course begins with providing students with the basic skills and knowledge in video production, to support them working further on various types of projects including single channel video art, multiple channel moving images works, video installation art, public art and hypermedia. Students then go on to synthesise this learning to produce video works for various creative media at advanced levels, including single channel video art, video installation art, hypermedia, and projects of experience design.
Students will be first introduced to basic technical theories and practices and methods of seeing to stimulate students' interests to experiment with moving image. Students will then be equipped with intermediate level video production skills including lighting for moving image, camera works, and use of professional video production equipment.
The course will be primarily conducted mostly in workshops environments to deliver skills and knowledge with actual practices: optical theory, operations of cameras, lenses, other supported gears and editing software. Apart from the practical skills, students will be equipped with knowledge of forms and artistic development such as colours, lights, framing, composition, and the idea of mise-en-scène. HD digital video cameras, supported gears and editing suites fully support students' projects.
