VART2656 Analogue Photography (3 units)

This is a foundation course on analogue photography and related historical processes. Technical knowledge, and creative principle and methods in analogue photography will be taught to sharpen student's understanding in photography at its origins.
Students will explore and experiment with the analogue imaging processes. Technical workshops on camera obscura, film development, darkroom printing and historical process (such as Cyanotype) will be provided. Coursework is designed to enhance students' ability in conceptualising and presenting photography in the context of contemporary art. Upon completing this course, students are expected to be both technically intellectually prepared to higher-level media arts related courses.
