- Medium of Instruction:

This course provides students with an overview of the key themes and debates in contemporary social theory. Building upon insights gathered in SOCI2015 Sociological Theory I, the course covers the main intellectual debates in social theory post World War II. It aims to provide students with a critical lens through which to understand the social processes, events and phenomena from the second part of the 20th century and with the intellectual skills to critique and examine 21st century social, cultural, economic, political and technological transformations. On completion of the course, students are expected to obtain an understanding of the major themes that structure social theoretical debates, including agency and structure, power, gender, race and globalisation. This course will enable students to cultivate a deeper understanding of the intellectual shifts that have shaped contemporary social analysis.
