This course provides a broad survey of Western art music from the antiquity to the present. It explores a range of repertoire of Western music and introduces students to different musical terms, traditions, concepts, genres, and styles. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the trajectory of Western music and grow in the ability to listen, analyse, interpret, discuss, and write about music. Students are encouraged to explore musical works, practices, and traditions in light of cultural, social, intellectual, and political contexts from multiple perspectives.
