- Medium of Instruction:
- English
Geopolitics is no longer only about military, diplomatic, and economic contests over territories. The rise of information technologies and global digital connectivity have made the cyberspace a new domain of geopolitics, with numerous devices and tactics deployed by nation-states to gain control of this new space for geopolitical and geoeconomic goals. At the same time, geopolitical confrontations shape the global spread of urban technologies and development or smart cities. This course aims to unravel these complex dynamics by critical examining the interplay between geopolitics, cyberspace, and urban technologies. Students will explore how nation-states leverage information technologies to assert influence and control in the digital and non-digital realms, as well as how geopolitical rivalries and alliances shape the development trajectory of urban technologies and smart cities.
