GCAP3246 Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities: Exploring the Lives of Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This is a service-learning course.
This course examines the experiences and challenges of ethnic minorities (EMs) in Hong Kong, focusing on the South Asian community, which makes up 8.4% of the population. Since approximately 30% of South Asians aged 25-64 can only read and write in Chinese, these language barriers often limit their social mobility and opportunities. Moreover, over 80% of South Asians live with spouses of the same ethnicity, leading to further isolation from the Hong Kong society.
This course emphasises emotional expression and communication through hands-on service learning. Students will engage directly with EMS, gaining valuable insights into their lives and perspectives. Harness cutting-edge AI tools to develop your communication skills and unleash your creativity by producing various art forms that foster meaningful dialogue between ethnic groups. The highlight of the course is a dynamic public exhibition where you’ll showcase your Al-generated artworks, amplifying the voices and stories of EMS in Hong Kong.
