GCAP3015 Ecotourism in GBA (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area): Planning and Design (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This is an experiential learning course.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area/GBA) is an integral part of the strategic planning of the country's developmental blueprint, which consists of trade and commerce, educational training, transportation and, perhaps most importantly, tourism. While it is important to enhance tourism exchanges and co-operation within the GBA, it is also necessary to pay attention to the importance of balancing economic growth and environmental (nature and culture) sustainability. The development of ecotourism is, therefore, a good option.
This course explores a wide variety of issues related to the developmental blueprint in the GBA: economics, politics, human and community relations, and especially ecotourism. It will focus particularly on understanding the development of GBA through face-to-face field interviews with GBA residents. Students are expected to submit a group ecotourism planning proposal that includes analysis of tourism resources (Attractions), transportation arrangement and itinerary planning (Accessibility), infrastructure and facilities (Amenities), events management (Activities), and Accommodation. Students will present their draft proposals at the end of semester, before submitting the finalised proposals to the GBA-based organisations or local community.
Through the experiential project students from different disciplines should learn how to explore related issues from different perspectives and how to solve problems by using multiple methods.
