GAME4046 Blending Games with Stories in Everyday Life (3 units)
This course explores the art and practice of integrating games with stories in different media forms and daily settings to communicate a message, deliver a playful experience, and/or create a lifelog. Through a combination of theoretical readings, case studies, and hands-on projects, students will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles and techniques that combine gaming with storytelling across both physical and digital media.
The course will cover a range of topics, including narrative structures, game elements and mechanics, interactive and immersive storytelling, the Metaverse, VR/AR/MR technologies, and narratives with data. Students will also explore the personal, social, cultural, and economical implications of story-rich gaming and the role it plays in creating innovative products and shaping public discourse.
