CRIN2005 Introduction to Creative Industry (3 units)

Introduction to Creative Industries offers students a broad understanding of the contemporary creative sector. It emphasises key concepts impacting the music and film/TV industries, brand development for individual artists, talent management, event planning and production, and audience engagement, from live events to fan practices to Web 3.0 promotion. Given the creative industry's critical role in Hong Kong's economy, this course examines the policies and initiatives targeting the creative industries and underscores the necessity of building a robust ecosystem to maximise its socio-economic benefits and impact on tourism. Students will explore the importance of fostering new talent, creating new forms of audience engagement, understanding the resource-intensive nature of creative projects and how to maximise their advantages for all stakeholders.
Course Objectives:
(1) Understand the definition of the creative industry within a global context and explore its diverse ecosystem, including the roles of various stakeholders; (2) Explore and apply analytical tools to assess different models in the creative industry, considering various perspectives to evaluate their effectiveness; (3) Foster the ability to generate innovative ideas through case studies in film, television and music and develop strategies for effective pitching and audience engagement; and (4) Strengthen skills for effective teamwork while learning to identify and address challenges that may arise during collaborative projects.
