COMM7100 Intelligent Communication: Cloud and AI Solutions for Small Organizations (3 units)
This course prepares students to be digitally competent, industry ready, and socially responsible through experiential learning. The full curriculum is co-designed by three parties: the School of Communication, a technological company of international standing and small organization (preferably a well-established NGO). While it is incumbent on the school to provide teaching and learning space, the two industry partners will be in charge of immersing students into real-world practices, familiarising them with the company’s existing technological toolkits, and assessing their skills with industry standards. The course includes hands-on experience in small organisations and tech companies to solve various problems related to data management. Using small business applications as examples, the course makes students understand the process through which technology companies offer data-based solutions to these companies for effective communication and delivery of service and management. Students will learn to adapt and apply these solutions in real world for improved data management, analysis, and visualisation, as well as effective communication with stakeholders. As part of the course completion requirements, the data sets the students collect and solution proposals to the small organisation will be evaluated by a professional tech company team. Those who pass the test will receive a course completion certificate from the tech company and their work will be selectively presented to a small organisation for practical use. In addition, at the end of the course, interested students will participate in the standardised qualification exam.
