BAGE1005 Introduction to Global Entertainment Business (3 units)

This course aims to offer an overview of the business of the entertainment industry within a global context. It surveys different types of entertainment businesses such as film, music, streaming media, advertising, gaming, theatre, amusement park, travel and tourism, and museum, as well as their key management and operational principles. It introduces a range of business models of content development, budgeting, licensing, administration, marketing, and audience engagement that are crucial in the local and global marketplace, highlighting the resource-intensive nature of entertainment-based projects and how the practitioners can maximise the benefits for all stakeholders. Students also explore trends and issues of entertainment industries and creative entrepreneurship in rapidly changing global and technological environments. This course serves as a foundation for the students of the BAGE program to build and advance their knowledge and skill in multiple areas of entertainment studies and to apply them in their future transdisciplinary efforts.
