WRIT4015 The Double Face of Creativity: Fact and Fiction (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This course aims to explore the interrelationship of fact and fiction in creative works (especially literary) and in the world. It will examine particularly those works that nuance and problematize discernibility of the two. It will examine creative non-fiction works, non-fiction poetry, biographical fiction, and fiction that explores the space between truth. It will also explore such theories as Lacan’s dictum that “truth has the structure of a fiction”; Hannah Arendt’s ideas on truth, fiction and propaganda in politics; And Augé’s ideas on oblivion and the necessity of forgetting. The course will be composed of three separate modules: (1) Philosophical Overview; (2) Politics, Religion and the World; and (3) Creative Practice.
