This elementary course aims to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge in video production, hence to support them working further on various types of projects including single channel video art, multiple channels moving images works, video installation art, public art and hypermedia.
As a foundation course, besides introducing basic technical theories and practices, methods of seeing will be also taught to stimulate students’ interests to experiment on moving image. This is an essence of an elementary course to support higher-level project-based courses.
The course will be conducted mostly in workshops environments to deliver skills and knowledge with actual practices: optical theory, operations of cameras, lenses, other supported gears and editing software. Apart from the practical skills, students will be equipped with knowledge of forms and artistic development such as colours, lights, framing, composition, and the idea of mise-en-scène. HD digital video cameras, supported gears and mac computers for editing fully support students’ projects.
