Crisis translation is generally defined as any form of linguistic or cultural transmission of messages that enables access to information during an emergency, regardless of the medium (written, oral or multimodal) and the nature of the emergency.
This course aims to provide students with essential knowledge and skills enabling them to operate effectively and ethically under constrained circumstances typical of crisis communication. Students will get a better understanding of the complex operational context of multilingual crisis settings and of translation and interpreting needs corresponding to different phases of a crisis. Students will be enabled to act not only as translators but also as translation project managers, language consultants, and citizen translation trainers.
